Calling within the SOCRATES Network is to be accomplished using the video site's IP address (shown in bold). See Dialing Instructions sheet for details on how to make video calls.
The IP video codecs support connections up to 768 Kb/s. IP video calls should be made at 384 Kb/s unless specific circumstances dictate otherwise. The codecs have been set to default to 384 Kb/s.
For scheduling of, or assistance with, video calls contact the COMET Network office at 888-345-1727. The COMET Network office provides scheduling and technical support for the video portion of the SOCRATES Network.
For access to KIDS or COMET sites and to schedule multiple point events of more than two SOCRATES sites, call the COMET office at 507-389-7405 (Fax: 507/625-7534)
For problems associated with video calls, including the MCU used for multi-point conferencing (more than two sites in the connection), contact the COMET Network office at 888-345-1727.
If the video problem appears to be local or if you are at a KIDS analog network site, contact the COMET Network office at 888-345-1727 or 507-389-7405. If there is no answer then page the COMET Director at 507-344-6834 (this is a digital pager, enter your number followed by the pound sign).
The COMET Network office is staffed Monday through Saturday. Weekday hours are from 6:45 am through 8:00 pm Monday through Friday. Saturday hours are from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm during the school year.
For problems related directly to the Hickory Tech network contact the Hickory Tech Customer Service Help Desk at 877-877-8178. The HickoryTech video help desk is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
